The History of my tank
I bought the tank January of 1999. I bought it second hand from an old friend that needed the money for two hundre dollars . They had paid almost two thousand. I set up the tank may of 2000. I added 3" of crushed coral and salt water.
I let it run 3 months before deciding to make a reef tank.. I wanted to add some decorations to the tank but didn't know where to start. I called the original owner and she said that she had all the rock that was in the tank on her back porch, but it was dead.
Not knowing the difference I took the rock and washed it in water and bleach then rinsed it very well before adding it to my tank. After this was done I started to have a algae problem. So I bought a cleaning crew.
For about two weeks everything was fine, then my water readings went through the roof. Experts on the net said that the cleaning crew were making the tank cycle and just to wait it out. I did, losing almost all my cleaning crew.
Now people said to get rid of the crushed coral and add sand. I did.
Then they said I needed more lighting. I did.
They told me to buy some damsels. I did.
I thought everything was fine so I purchased a diamond gobie, feather duster, and a small yellow polyps.
Suddenly, my tank turned colors; all the rock turned brown and mostly green.
I asked for help again and was confronted by outrages of different opinions.
The best advice I received was to get a mentor.
This is why I answer questions at the reef forums now.
I did make all those stupid mistakes that I never thought about.

I really like his tank and ,well, someday may have one close to it.
